Two killed in Plateau community
Two persons have been shot dead in Ancha community, Bassa Local Council of Plateau State.
An eyewitness told journalists that the incident occurred on Tuesday at about 8:35 p.m.
The deceased, Daniel James, 32 and Zakwe Deba, 35 were ambushed by unknown assailants as they returned home from a function.
A community leader in the area, Nuhu Bitrus, who confirmed the incident, said they were shot at close range and died on the spot, while the attackers fled into the bush.
Bitrus said: “We had been happy that there was no attack in our community in the past three weeks. But this evening, two of our people were shot dead. They were gunned down in a village called Ancha in Miango District. It is rather unfortunate. They have just been confirmed dead.”
He said the incident has been reported to the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the council, while the remains of the victims have been deposited at a morgue.
Efforts to speak with the State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ubah Ogaba, on the incident were unsuccessful.
