The Federal Government has declared Wednesday and Thursday as public holidays following the seeing of the moon which according to Islam, represents the guidance of God on the path through life. The new moon also connotes the Muslim calendar, which has 12 months each of 29 or 30 days.
This announcement was made in Abuja on monday 11th of May, 2021 by the minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola who congratulated the Muslim faithful on this seasonal occasion.
He urged all Nigerians at home and abroad to use the period of this year’s Eidul-Fitr celebration to pray for peace, stability, and economic transformation in Nigeria.
Additionally, the minister assured Nigerians that the resolve of the Buhari-led administration to end crime and criminality in the country and restore peace to every part of Nigeria was sacrosanct.
Finally, the minister wished all Muslims happy and peaceful Eidul-Fitr.
