The attorney overseeing the independent committee on Man City is an Arsenal supporter
The independent commission’s lead attorney, an Arsenal supporter, is looking into suspected Financial Fair Play violations at Manchester City.
After falling to Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 on Sunday, Pep Guardiola’s team was unable to close the gap on the Gunners in the title battle. Mikel Arteta’s team leads City by five points, but if Arsenal wins their remaining match, the deficit will grow to eight points.
However, the Premier League just revealed the club has been charged with more than 100 alleged violations of financial standards. This might soon make City’s problems on the field even worse. And the person in charge of the independent commission investigating City’s business is actually an Arsenal fan.
The chair of the independent commission examining into City is Barrister Murray Rosen KC.
Additionally, he will be responsible for choosing other panelists who might subtract points from City.
While the King’s Counsel is thought to be too seasoned to be swayed by outside forces and opinions, Rosen is an ardent Arsenal supporter.
“He is a strong believer in fairness and in the power and benefits of sport and has a keen appreciation of its social, political and financial aspects,” Rosen’s profile on the 4 New Square chambers wrote. “He has participated in sport all his life, is a member of the MCC and Arsenal FC, and still regularly plays real tennis and ping pong.
He makes a sympathetic hands-on tribunal chairman and an effective mediator thanks to his knowledge of the sports scene and the challenges that arise, both commercial and regulatory, in relation to the governance of sport, and its competitions and events.
