Syndicates gets arrested by DSS for selling new naira notes


Several people engaged in the selling of the new naira notes have been detained, according to a report released on Monday by the Department of State Services.
In a statement released on Monday by Peter Afunanya, the DSS’s spokesman, the agency accused some commercial bank employees of supporting the crime.
The headline of the release said, “Bank official implicated in DSS intercepts of syndicates selling new currency notes.”
The statement said: “The Department of State Services hereby advises the public that it has intercepted some members of organized syndicates engaged in the selling of the new redesigned naira notes. It was also discovered that some commercial bank employees are assisting the economic malfeasance during the course of its operations in this regard in certain regions of the country.
As a result, the Service cautions money racketeers to stop their despicable behavior. In a similar context, appropriate regulatory authorities are asked to increase monitoring and supervisory actions to quickly address the rising tendency.
It should be emphasized that the Service has instructed its Commands and Formations to take additional measures to guarantee that all individuals and organizations involved in the illicit selling of the notes are identified. Therefore, everyone with pertinent information is advised to alert the appropriate authorities.
