PRESIDENT BUHARI APPOINTS NEW CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF.

President Buhari has appointed Major General Farouk Yahaya as the new Chief of Army Staff.

This was included in an announcement by the acting Director of Defence Information, Onyema Nwachukwu.

Mr. Farouk Yahaya replaces Ibrahim Attahiru, a lieutenant general, who died in a plane crash alongside 10 other officers and men of the army, last week.

The new army chief was the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, the counter insurgency operation in the North-east.

Yahaya was the former General Officer Commanding 1 Division of the Nigerian Army, Kaduna. He is a member of Regular Course 37 and from Zamfara State.

Major General Farouk was also Commander of 4 Brigade Headquarters of the Nigerian Army in Benin, Edo State. He has held the position of Military Secretary and he is now the 22nd Chief of Army Staff.
