Police in Akwa Ibom capture the suspect in the Nysc lodge robbery


The Akwa Ibom State police command has detained two persons suspected of being part of the robbery group that broke into the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) hostel on Udo Ekong Street, off Information Drive, in Uyo.
The arrest of the two suspects was in fulfillment of the promise made by the state commissioner of police, Olatoye Durosinmi, when the robbers scaled the fence of the Corps members Lodge robbing them of their valuables, including phones, in July of this year, according to a statement signed by the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Odiko Mcdon, and made available to Tribune Online in Uyo on Friday.
“Recall that some time ago, on the 6th of July 2022, at about 01:30 am to be precise, suspected armed robbers broke into the NYSC lodge, located at Udo Ekong Street, Off Information Drive in Uyo LGA, damaged the doors of the partially-fenced building, and robbed Corpers of their phones, jewelry, cash, and other valuables,” the statement says in part.
After personally visiting the scene with the state’s NYSC Coordinator, the commissioner of police, CP Olatoye Durosinmi, vowed to hold the perpetrators accountable and has since remained committed.
Iniobong Okon Eden and Joshua Bassey Asuquo, who allegedly fled after perpetrating the crime, were reportedly apprehended by the Anti-Robbery squad.
