Peter Obi: What I’ll Do About Okupe’s Conviction

Doyin Okupe, the director-general of the Peter Obi campaign organization, was found guilty of money laundering by the court.

The Director-General of his Campaign Organization, Doyin Okupe, was found guilty of money laundering, but Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) candidate for president, has stated that this will not deter him from running for Nigeria’s top office.
On Monday, Mr. Obi addressed journalists in Uyo at the Akwa Ibom State Council’s secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
The LP presidential candidate declared that he was unfazed by the conviction, that he would carry on with his campaign, and that he would let the legal system’s due process run its course.
“Like you, I’ve heard about it (the conviction). I continue to research anything that comes from the court. I support the legal system. It won’t make me lose hope.
“Someone asked me why I haven’t been using my airplane because it has been grounded and all that today when I landed in Akwa Ibom, and I told him that nothing demoralizes me.
“I’ve never stayed where they dropped me in my life; else, I would have been there before.
“If they want to change anything about the people around me, they can during this election. I’ll make it there, Mr. Obi assured.
In response to the perception that he lacks the political infrastructure necessary to win the presidency, he stated that he was committed to tearing down the country’s current political system, which promoted corruption and increased poverty among Nigerians.
