Osun APC senatorial candidate Famurewa is detained by Nigerian police on suspicion of illegally possessing firearms.
After being detained, the APC candidate was brought to Osogbo’s CID of the Osun State Police Command.
Ajibola Famurewa, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Osun East Senatorial District, has been taken into custody by the police on suspicion of, among other things, illegally possessing ammunition and firearms.
On Tuesday, Famurewa received an invitation from police officers working for the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Alagbon, Lagos, in relation to the capture of political thug Afolabi Fadahunsi, also known as Carlos.
According to reports, Afolabi referred to his National Assembly sponsor as the two-term representative of Ijesa South Federal Constituency.
The APC candidate was then taken into custody and Wednesday was transported to the CID of the Osun State Police Command in Osogbo.
He was transferred from Alagbon to Osogbo on Wednesday after his detention on Tuesday, according to a source.
A top aide to Famurewa, Akinyele Akintola, commented on the event in a Facebook post and labeled the detention of his principal as political.
He emphasized that the suspect who implicated him was merely following the instructions of his paymasters in the ruling party and that the arrest of Famurewa was the result of a witch hunt by his political rivals.
Senator Francis Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East in the Senate, responded by denying any involvement in the detention of Famurewa.
On the Peoples Democratic Party platform, Fadahunsi, who presently represents the senatorial constituency, is running for re-election.
The senator called the claim that he was the one who sponsored Afolabi to indict his APC counterpart as ridiculous in a statement released by his media office.
“In the past 24 hours, there have been fruitless attempts to connect the arrest of Mr. Ajibola Famurewa by the police with the illustrious Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi, who represents the good people of Osun East Senatorial District.
According to the most recent information, Famurewa, the APC candidate for Osun East, was apprehended after police officers detained renowned thug Afolabi Fadahunsi, also known as Carlos.
It is well known that the aforementioned Carlos, the State Coordinator of the infamous gang of political thugs known as the “State Boys” created by the Rauf Aregbesola regime, worked for APC and Famurewa.
He repeatedly sought to kill Fadahunsi at the urging of the APC and its candidates.
“This same Carlos shot and injured numerous PDP supporters in Ilesa and the surrounding areas at various points during the run-up to the 2015 general elections.
“Reliable security sources claimed that the individual had been under surveillance for the previous six months without being aware of it, and that when his adversaries caught up with him, he was captured in Osogbo with guns.
“Sources further informed us that Carlos named Remi Omowaye and Famurewa as his principal backers, giving him with weaponry to wreak havoc on the populace, particularly PDP supporters and members, while being questioned.
We therefore did not take it as a surprise when Famurewa was later apprehended to face the full force of the law for the deadly duties he and others in the APC had engaged their killing squad leader in. The attempt to connect Carlos and Famurewa’s voyage to the stake with our honorable Senator, on the other hand, caught us off guard.
According to further sources, Carlos identified Remi Omowaye and Famurewa as his principal supporters who provided him with weaponry so he could wreak havoc on the populace, particularly PDP supporters and members, when he was being questioned.
Therefore, we were not shocked when Famurewa was later arrested and brought up to face the full force of the law for the deadly duties he and others in the APC had undertaken in the service of their killer squad leader. The attempt to connect Fadahunsi with Carlos and Famurewa’s march to the stake without turning back surprised us, nevertheless.
It has been established that Carlos shot at Fadahunsi twice on the same day in Osogbo after the 2015 senatorial election, when Jide Omoworare of the APC stole the victory from Fadahunsi. This happened in front of the INEC office in Osogbo and while passing by the then PDP secretariat on the Gbongbon/Osogbo road.
“Despite having the same surname, the residents of Ijesaland and Osun state are aware that Carlos and Fadahunsi are never connected and do not hold the same political views. Therefore, attempts to connect light and darkness, such as those being made by some of Famurewa’s paid operatives, reeks of intellectual laziness.
“There is enough evidence to show that Famurewa is an aggressive politician.”
On social media, it was entertaining to see videos of him telling fellow APC members to kill and attack anyone who opposed Oyetola’s choice of the governorship ticket.
“We know for sure that he can’t stop God’s chosen candidate of the people, Fadahunsi from returning to the Red Chamber, even if he has not run foul of the law and because of that, we will not mind security agents leaving him off the hook till after his ordained defeat.
“But we are not apostle of lawlessness. He should be made to answer for his sins without dragging the name and reputation of excellence, service and dedication to people’s welfare built over the years by the retired Customs boss, Adenigba Fadahunsi.”
Efforts made by reporters to reach Osun Police Command spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, were not successful as she did not answer the calls.
