Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State has said that Nigeria at this time is are tired of politicians making promises, which are mostly never kept.
He spoke on Friday during an interview on Arise Television while answering questions relating to the coming general elections of 2023.
With the upcoming presidential primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in sight, Umahi berated the lack of unity amongst Southern politicians regarding ensuring a consensus presidential candidate from the region.
Even though the ruling party is yet to formally announce the zoning of the Presidential position, many political observers have speculated that the South would be given the leeway to vie for the position.
However, many Southern politicians have signified their interest which might eventually work against the region’s interests.
This was what informed Umahi’s warning during the interview.
“If people are jumping into the presidential race, Nigerians must be able to look into their past. The people are tired of empty promises and what your achievements are.
“If the basis of zoning to the South-East is on fairness and the Southerners throw that away by in-fighting, there is no justification for saying the North not to vie for the position.
“Of course, there are capable hands in the South-East but we must think of the stability of the country. We should think about the nation especially the elites who are the problem,” Umahi stated.
Besides Umahi, other politicians in the ruling include Bola Tinubu, Yemi Osinbajo, Rochas Okorocha and Kayode Fayemi Ka[
The presidential primaries of the APC is scheduled to hold on May 31.
