Morocco is rated as the top team in Africa by FIFA.

Following their successful performance and achievements in the just concluded 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Morocco has surpassed Senegal to earn the top spot in the FIFA Ranking for Africa for that year.
Following their outstanding performance at the world’s biggest football tournament, Morocco, which was ranked second in Africa and 22nd overall in November, has climbed 11 spots to take the 11th spot in the world rankings.
As the first and only African nation to ever go to that level of the tournament, the Atlas Lions did so at the World Cup in Qatar.
The Atlas Lions defeated Portugal in the quarterfinals and Spain in the Round of 16 to go to the semifinals of the world’s biggest football competition.
After defeating Portugal, Belgium, and Canada and drawing with Croatia, Morocco took first place in their Group.
The team led by Walid Regragui finished the competition in fourth place and barely lost to Croatia in the third-place playoff.
