Leeds United sack Jesse Marsch with club above Premier League relegation zone
Jesse Marsch has been fired by Leeds United, who are just above the relegation zone in the Premier League.
The Whites have lost their last seven Premier League games, and they are now above the bottom three on goal differential. With a 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest on Sunday, the Elland Road team suffered yet another costly setback.
Marsch’s career came to an end as a result, even though he had only succeeded Marcelo Bielsa in March 2022. Leeds released a statement on Monday afternoon confirming the departure of their head coach.
It read: “Leeds United can confirm head coach Jesse Marsch has been relieved of his duties. Jesse joined the club in February 2022 and was instrumental in keeping the club in the Premier League on the final day of last season.
“The club will also lose Rene Maric, Cameron Toshack, and Pierre Barrieu. Jesse and his backroom team deserve our appreciation for their work and our best wishes for the future.
“The hiring process for a new head coach is under way, and we’ll keep fans informed over the next few days,” the statement reads.
By finishing three points ahead of Burnley at the end of the previous season, the American was able to keep Leeds in the Premier League.
But despite Leeds supporting him with four new additions during the January transfer window, Marsch has only managed to win four of his 20 Premier League games this season, leading to his dismissal.
Leeds are currently searching for a new manager to turn around a dismal sequence of results dating back to before the midseason break for the winter World Cup.
After the upcoming slate of games, in which Leeds will play challenging back-to-back games against old rivals Manchester United on Wednesday and Sunday, the club will likely name a new manager.
The 49-year-successor old’s is already the subject of widespread rumors, with former coach Bielsa being considered by supporters of the team. Fabrizio Romano asserts that the Argentine’s comeback is currently regarded as doubtful.
