Gunmen attack a residential building, a police station, and an INEC office in Anambra
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, office in Ojoto, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, was stormed by gunmen early on Wednesday morning.
According to a source, the thugs used IEDs to burn down the commission’s headquarters.
In the same local government region, the gunmen also targeted a police station in Nnobi and a residential building inside of it, where they killed a boy and injured a girl.
However, at the time of this report, the extent of the damage in the police station had not yet been determined.
The occurrences were confirmed in a press release by DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, the state police command’s spokesperson.
He claimed that the attack took place at around 1:45 am on Wednesday, adding that a large number of attackers arrived, and that four Toyota Sienna vehicles transported us to the area of the incidents.
He further stated that in order to prevent such attacks in other locations, the leadership had extensively deployed security forces around the state.
According to the press release, the Anambra State Police Command has increased security in the state as a result of an attack on the INEC office in Idemili South, Ojoto, and Nnobi Police Station on Tuesday, January 29, 2023.
“By 1:45 am on this day, 1/2/2023, the hoodlums arrived in large numbers, driving four unregistered Sienna vehicles loaded with IEDs, petrol bombs, and other explosives.
“They invaded the INEC office, the Police Station and the residential building in the station. Unfortunately, one boy aged 16 years a relative of a serving policeman in the station was murdered by the armed men, while the other, a female aged 15 years old sustained a gunshot injury. She has been taken to the hospital where she is receiving treatment.”
