Divers recovers drowned jet ski rider’s body

The body of an unidentified adult male who drowned while riding on a jet ski at the Lekki-Ikoyi inland waterways in Lagos State on Wednesday has been recovered.
Local divers found the body on Friday morning, according to Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, general manager of the Lagos State Waterways Authority.
The victim drowned as a result of speeding, according to a statement released on Wednesday by Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the permanent secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency.
He added that the body had sunk too deep to be rescued.
Emmanuel, however, said that as soon as the body was discovered, local divers alerted emergency services.
Emergency personnel discovered the body on Friday morning with the assistance of nearby residents, the man claimed. We were alerted by the villagers who had discovered the body, and we went to locate and recover it. The marine police now have possession of it.
The LASWA boss said the identity of the deceased was not ascertained before it was taken to the marine police.
He said, “We did not have the details of the victim before we gave the body to the marine police. They will carry out an investigation on his identity.”
The Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, could not be reached for a reaction as calls made to his telephone were not responded to. A text message sent to him had yet to be replied to as of the time this report was filed.
