Christmas and New Year’s street fairs are prohibited in Osun by the police

A ban on street carnivals during the state’s Christmas and New Year celebrations was issued by Osun police on Tuesday in Osogbo.
SP Yemisi Opalola, the state’s police spokesperson, said the restriction was implemented to stop criminals from spreading mayhem while posing as street carnivals.
“As part of the police’s efforts to ensure that the state’s Christmas and New Year celebrations are calm, we inform the general public, particularly young people, that yearly street carnivals are not permitted during this time.
“Intelligence provided to the Command indicates that criminals intend to commit mayhem under the pretext of street fairs. Therefore, street carnivals in any shape or form will not be tolerated.
“All carnival organizers are urged to celebrate the events in halls or on gated grounds.
Parents and guardians are equally admonished to tell their kids and wards to avoid doing anything that would endanger the tranquility of this time of year.
“Anyone who is found to be in violation of the law will be subject to the full force of the law.
The people of Osun are urged to conduct their legal transactions and celebrations in peace. stated Opalola. (NAN)
