According to Mukhtar Shagari, a former deputy governor of Sokoto State, Nigerians will not vote for someone who is unable to respond to inquiries.
Shagari, a former minister of water resources and current member of the PDP’s board of trustees, claimed that Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential candidate, has consistently shown up to each forum to field questions.
“You don’t go to Chatham House with a team,” he stated. You can go to Chatham House to announce your plans to the entire world as well as the citizens of your own country. A site where you can practice answering challenging questions is Chatham House. Chatham House is not a venue where you go with a group of people and assign some people to respond to questions as they are raised. Because you are the candidate, you will answer them.
“I don’t support that strategy. It is demeaning to Nigerians. Tinubu hasn’t said anything, at least not to my knowledge. You asked the [people you traveled there with] for the answers. Nigerians are eager to hear from the contenders running for president. The remedies you offer for Nigeria’s current problems with infrastructure, economics, and insecurity are what Nigerians want to hear.
You don’t go to a debate or a job interview with your brother, and when questions are posed, you respond that your brother will respond. Who will you work for if you do that?
Nigerians are now aware that Atiku Abubakar has consistently shown up at events to respond to questions and has allowed journalists to do the same. He has appeared in front of Nigerians in a variety of settings to explain his plans.
