Lesedi Molapisi, a 30-year-old Botswana woman who is being executed for drug trafficking in Bangladesh, has an old tweet that has surfaced.

Molapisi was detained at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in Dhaka on January 24, 2022, according to the Bangladeshi New Age, after getting off a Qatar Airways flight that had flown via Doha from South Africa.

Social media was ablaze in November with unverified rumors that Molapisi had been put to death. But according to her father, Goitsemodimo Molapisi, she is still alive and just awaiting her trial.

He disclosed to Newzroom Africa that he was getting information about her through a middleman who had been hired by an African association in Bangladesh to help her.

Her father remarked, “She insists she’s well and is stating the trial hasn’t started yet.

He noted that although the case had not yet gone to trial, she had been brought before the court on November 14 for “a mention.”

Her father claimed that the family was unaware of her vacation plans and learned of her detention seven days after she had left the house.

Bangladesh still uses the death sentence on a regular basis for a variety of crimes.

Goitsemodimo further stated that his daughter was unaware of any drugs in her luggage.

According to Molapisi, he was made aware of a letter sent by a Pretoria-based company to Bangladeshi officials asking a visa for his daughter to go there and buy ready-made clothing that would be resold in Southern Africa.

He claimed that prior to that, she had been jobless.
