As the world prepares for a bigger battle, chances for peace in Ukraine are dwindling- UN Secretary General Gutteres
Antonio Guterres, the head of the United Nations, told leaders gathered in New York for the organization’s General Assembly that the world is willfully advancing into a “wider war” in a grim tone.
On February 24, 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine. As the war’s one-year anniversary approaches, Russia plans to launch a devastating onslaught on Ukrainian territory while Ukraine is ready to acquire new Western weapons to launch a counteroffensive, indicating that there is no sign of an end in sight.
“The possibilities for peace are dwindling, and the Russian invasion of Ukraine is causing tremendous pain to the Ukrainian people with huge global ramifications,” he stated.
“The chances of further escalation and bloodshed keep growing. I fear the world is now sleepwalking into a wider war. I fear it’s doing so with its eyes wide open.”
