Appeal Court Reinstates Adamawa Speaker, Abbas As PDP Senatorial Candidate For Adamawa Central

Aminu Iya Abbas, speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, has been re-nominated by the Court of Appeal, Yola Division, as the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) senatorial candidate for the Adamawa Central District.
In Yola, the capital of Adamawa State, Justice Mohammed Lawal Abubakar on Friday overturned Justice Abdul-aziz Anka’s decision to remove Abbas as the PDP candidate.
On November 28, 2022, various sources claimed that a Federal High Court in Yola had overturned Aminu Iya Abbas’ election as the PDP’s senatorial candidate. Abbas is the Speaker of the Adamawa House of Assembly.
Iya Abbas triumphed against Auwal Bamanga Tukur, D. D. Azura, Mohammed Modibbo, Ibrahim Mustapha, Ibrahim Abubakar, and Abdullahi Prambe in the PDP senatorial primary held on May 23, 2022.
Iya Abbas’ victory was, however, contested in court by Mohammed Modibbo, who requested that the primary election be nullified on the grounds that Auwal Tukur was permitted to run while sitting as the head of the Governing Council of Adamawa State University.
In his decision on the lawsuit brought by Mohammed Modibbo against the PDP and four other parties, Justice Anka declared the PDP’s senatorial primary election for Adamawa Central invalid.
Abbas, who promptly filed an appeal against the ruling, had his ticket reinstated on Friday.
