Africom Not Relocating To Nigeria, Pentagon Replies Nigerian Government.

R[/ecall that President Buhari in a recent virtual meeting with the US current secretary of state Anthony Blinken on April 27th, had requested that the US African Command currently in Germany be relocated to Nigeria.

Pentagon has said there are no plans to relocate its African command to Nigeria or any west African state.

Germany-based African Command is the headquarters of the united states military headquaters that oversees its operations in Africa.

Buhari’s request followed a decade-long fight against terrorism, banditory, kidnappings, and killings of unarmed civilians especially in the christian communities.

However, the US government on thursday May 6th, 2021, ruled out plans to relocate Africom from it current base in Germany to Nigeria or any part of Africa.

According to the US department of defence in Pentagon, previous studies have shown that the cost of relocating Africom from germany to Africa is huge.

In an email response to Punch, the pentagon said:

Although it would continue to value Nigeria and other countries in Africa as essential partners, the American government will not consider relocating Africom to  any part of the African continent at the moment.

It went further to say that:

it will be inappriopriate to speculate  on any future actions. However at this time, moving the Africom HQ is not part of any plans, but Africom’s readiness to assist Africa remains as strong today as it was when Africom was launched more than a decade ago says the pentagon.
