AFCON: Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu Ruled out

Paul Onuachu has reportedly been ruled out of AFCON tournament after the striker suffered a hamstring injury in Genk’s game against Antwerp.

It was gathered that the Nigerian international suffered a hamstring injury which could see him out of action for about four weeks. The former FC Midtylland star had opened scoring for Genk in the first half before the injury.

The 27-year-old was replaced by Ike Ugbo 20 minutes from time after picking up the injury.

So far, Onuachu has netted 12 goals in the league this season after he scored 35 goals in all competitions in the last campaign.

The striker has now joined Watford midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo who is already ruled out of the AFCON finals in Cameroon and there are still doubts over Victor Osimhen’s participation.

Interim head coach Austine Eguavoen is expected to release his provisional list for the competition this week. Nigeria are in Group D alongside Egypt, Sudan and Guinea-Bissau.
